New research reveals the most popular front door colours across UK regions

A recent study by a leading door sales and installation company, Value Doors, has revealed that the choice of front door colour varies across different regions in the UK.

When buying a new front door, many people across the UK will assess the security options, such as a 3-star diamond standard lock to keep those pesky intruders out or look into how energy efficient the door is to keep the cold out and the warm in.

Many people, on the other hand, will just want to get their favourite colour and have absolutely zero interest or clue about any other of these things as long as it looks better than the rest of the streets.

So, to help us with ensuring that we can supply certain colour doors quicker and easier, we conducted a really complicated survey with 2 questions via our social media channels.

This super hard, really confusing survey included 'What colour is your door?' and 'Where do you live?'

Knowing what we know, here are the really unsurprising answers:

According to the results, the most popular front door colour across the UK is black. This classic and timeless colour was found to be the top choice in almost half of all regions, including London, Scotland, South West, South East and Yorkshire and The Humber.

Jamie Robinson of Value Doors said that "time and time again we see thousands of orders for black doors being placed every year, they just suit so many different types of homes so are the obvious choice"

Now for the surprising choices:

However, the study also found that certain regions had a clear preference for other colours. For example, in the North West the most popular front door colour was beige, while in the West Midlands, purple was the top choice.

Other colours that were found to be popular across multiple regions included white, green, and red, with each of these colours being the favourite in at least two regions.

Commenting on the more out-there colour choices Jamie says "The best thing about composite doors is that you can pretty much get them in any RAL colour.

This means that people can match up their doors to their homes easily and affordably, or if they just want something that really stands out, then they have the choice".

It is worth noting that unique colour changes can increase the cost of a new front door, but sometimes it is just worth it.

Commenting on the study from our socials, our MD for Value Doors said:

"The front door is one of the first things people notice when they arrive at a property, so it's important to choose a colour that reflects your personal style and complements the overall aesthetic of your home!

“Our research shows that there’s a wide variety of popular front door colours across the UK, and we hope that this information will help owners with their front door decisions.”

What's next?

Choosing the best colour door for your home is easy; it's like picking paint in B&Q.

We use the standard RAL colours here at Value Doors meaning you get to choose from 100's of different colours and we can match them to the code you need.

What's RAL we hear you say: RAL is an acronym for Reichs-Ausschuss für Lieferbedingungen.

This is German and roughly translates to the National Commission for Delivery Terms and Quality Assurance.
